None of us had ever been to the traditional True Blue night on Homecoming Week. We showed up to the Helaman Fields to find huge pools of blue foam all over the grass. On the hill there was a large tarp slide and a huge line of students. Some whose clothes were still clean, and others who were already dyed blue. We wondered if it was worth it. Our decision? ...ahhh yeah!
Jen and I got asked to Homecoming by two of our friends that live in our same complex. Paul asked Jen by inviting her over for a movie and had the question written in glow in the dark ink on the wall. Reed covered the back end of my car in balloons that had puzzle pieces inside of them. The night came...Jen and I rushed around to get ready...and still needed a few extra minutes when the boys came to get us. We went out to dinner and then to the dance, "Enchanted" that was held at Thanksgiving Point.

Lets face it, summer is over and us guys need some date ideas! Girls we're sorry that the last few weekend dates have been lame. We're trying, we really are. The fall season took us by surprise and we simply weren't ready. Having conquered Provo I feel like I have a few fun date ideas up my sleeve.
I just had an interesting time at a place here in Provo called Stewart Falls.* I went there with a blind date hooked up by my good friends. I recommend the location to everyone. The hike is an easy two-mile in-out hike with some impressive views of the Provo Canyon and the back side of Mount Timpanogos. Unfortunately, we missed the mesmerizing fall leaves by a week, but it was still a fun hike and the peaceful nature of the area was tranquilizing. I am definitely going back for future events with friends or future dates.
Do you have a date idea you want to share with the Dater's Block readership? Send a description in a message under "Contact Us" and your idea can be featured in a future article!

What better way is there to warm up in the cold weather than with a bon fire? Yeah it’s getting cold, but that doesn’t mean that dates are confined to the indoors. Last weekend my friends and I put together a pretty fun date. It was quick, cheap, easy and fun.
There are 15 days ‘til Christmas, and as people far and wide are counting down the days with advent calendars galore, Dater’s Block is presenting a series of articles containing fun ideas for wintertime dates! We hope you enjoy reading and participating! The first three “Dates of Christmas” all have to do with one of the most beloved aspects of Christmas—food.
"On the first date of Christmas my true love gave to me:"
1.Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…
This popular tradition of bygone days isn’t as common as it used to be, but people around the world still roast chestnuts the old-fashioned way.Roasting chestnuts as part of a date will make you nostalgic for a time you never even knew.Picture this: You walk inside from the cold, snowy weather to be greeted by a smiling face, Christmas music, and a cozy fire. What more could make the season bright? If you have access to an outdoor fire pit, indoor fireplace, or oven/gas electric range, you can follow these directions: http://www.ehow.com/how_4694105_roast-chestnuts-open-fire.html.
If you don’t have a fireplace, buy some chestnuts, heat up some eggnog, and sit in front of the – yes, I’m being serious—computer. Visit http://fauxfire.com/ with your speakers turned up to see what I’m talking about.
2.Cookies ‘n Gingerbread
There’s nothing like homemade sugar cookies…except, perhaps, homemade sugar-cookie-frosting!Bake sugar cookie dough, use fun cookie cutters, and decorate to your heart’s content. Then, deliver the finished cookies to a mutual friend, caroling and laughing all the way (or, if you have a sweet tooth like mine, devour them all yourselves!).Feeling especially creative?Build an architectural masterpiece out of gingerbread.Better yet, make it a competition – challenge another couple to see which team can build the tallest, most grandiose, or best-tasting gingerbread house!
3.Hot – hot – hot – Hot Chocolate!
For all of those guys and gals who aren’t exactly what we’d call gourmet chefs: You can still have a delightful, food-themed Christmas date!(And an inexpensive one, at that.) Just drive on down to Denny’s for two orders of “Bottomless Hot Chocolate” at $1.99 a mug.The refills are free and unlimited, so while you sip that rich, warm goodness you can actually have a conversation and get to know your date. When Jack Frost is nipping at your nose, nothing warms the body and soul like hot chocolate - and good company!
On the fourth date of Christmas my true love gave to me…
4. An “Angel Tree” toy shopping spree
You can find an angel tree in public places all over town.Back home, I would see one of them in my local church and at Wal-Mart.Earlier this month, there was a beautiful tree in the BYU Tanner building dedicated to the children.I often see couples at the mall shopping for themselves or each other, but wouldn’t it be even more meaningful to shop for a child who you know will appreciate an anonymous gift?It will be fun for you to shop at the toy stores you always want to go in (go on, admit it!) and together, you and your date can choose the perfect present to brighten someone’s holiday. These children may not get any gifts this Christmas without your help.

5. Food bank adventures
Working together for a good cause is a great way to get to know someone! This holiday season volunteer at a soup kitchen or food bank near you.For those in the Utah Valley area, the Community Action Services and Food Bank on Freedom Blvd is a great place to start. For more information on what projects are available and how to get started, visit http://www.communityactionprovo.org/index.php.

6. Holiday cheer with care center residents
What do music, games, and good conversation have in common? They all can be found in serving others on a personal level.I have fond Christmas memories of singing with my youth group to residents at a care center. Many residents have family members who don’t visit very often; others never have visitors.Sing Christmas carols, play games, or simply talk to residents at your local care center. They will appreciate your kindness in remembering them during a season when they may be especially prone to feelings of loneliness.
“It is difficult for those who are young to understand the loneliness that comes when life changes from a time of preparation and performance to a time of putting things away. . . We cannot bring them back the morning hours of youth. But we can help them live in the warm glow of a sunset made more beautiful by our thoughtfulness. . . and unfeigned love.” –Richard L. Evans
On the seventh date of Christmas my true love gave to me…
7.Christmas lights, camera, action!
Go for a Sunday drive or a stroll through town to enjoy the lights and luminaries of the season! If you live in Utah: Temple Square is a classic date during Christmastime! The lights there will be up through January 1, 2010.
8.Watch a Christmas movie
“It’s a Wonderful Life” is one of the most beloved and well known, and I highly recommend it!But there are many other Christmas movies that are uplifting and entertaining. My personal favorite?“The Muppet Christmas Carol.”Kermit’s depiction of Bob Cratchit is oh-so poignant, so heartwarming! If you want more movie ideas, visit http://movies.toptenreviews.com/list_christmas.htm.
9.Sledding in a winter wonderland
Sledding doesn’t just have to be for little kids! The snow is waiting for you, your date, and your friends. So grab your disks, toboggans, and tubes and take advantage of it!It well may be that you just can’t resist throwing that first snowball…let the games begin!
10.Ice skating
In the Provo area, there is the Seven Peaks arena, a venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics.Or, you could always slip ‘n slide on all the black ice that’s recently come to town…though that might be a more dangerous alternative!
11.A holiday concert
Several community groups and church congregations host sing-along events of Handel’s Messiah. Many county orchestras perform at annual winter concerts.Perhaps there is a Nativity pageant in your area. These kinds of events are perfect for a date, and they are usually free or very inexpensive.Enrich your mind and soul with inspiring music—music beckons the Christmas spirit like none other.
12.Enjoy Christmas day with your family!
From your friends at Dater’s Block: Thank you, subscribers! We wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I am getting really tired of having the same rehearsed conversation with every person I come in contact. I feel I’m practicing a dialogue and every person I run into is practicing the same one. My conversations with people go something like the following:
If you thought you were a modern day Romeo think again. You may have thought you had charm, class, and a suave approach to women, but you would lose any woman to this guy. You might be thinking to yourself, have you seen me? I'm fantastic, amazing and women buckle at the knees in my very presence. If that's the case, you haven't met this little Romeo.
How could anything good possibly come from crashing in a street race and being forced to choose between sleeping in a jail cell or a 10 square foot shack in Tokyo Japan? They say look on the bright side of life, but what about when life hits you hard in the face?
